The $100K Opportunity You Never Responded To
Here I am, on my soapbox, preaching again. But this drives me CRAZY!!!
A friend spots an “open‑to‑work” candidate on LinkedIn, ideal fit for a $100K role. Sounds great, right?
But there’s one huge roadblock: she has zero contact info in her profile.
What happened next:
- My friend sent a connection request … nothing.
- I, as a 2nd‑degree connection, tried too … still nothing.
We have 7 mutuals. I messaged all seven asking for an introduction or contact information … still no response.
The bigger issue:
If you’re “open‑to‑work” but:
- No email or phone in your Contact Info, and
- Rarely log in, or log in passively
…you are technically INVISIBLE to recruiters – even for high‑ticket opportunities.
Some hard facts:
- Only 16.2% of LinkedIn users in the U.S. log in daily
- And when users do log in, they’re not hanging around: the average session is just 7 minutes 38 seconds
That’s barely enough time to respond to a message.
Why this matters:
Recruiters aren’t going to hunt you down. If they can’t reach you fast, they’ll move on – to someone who’s reachable right now and to someone who logs in daily and spends more than 7 minutes on the platform.
What to fix right now:
- Add your FREAKING email and phone in your profile’s Contact Info.
- Enable InMail so recruiters can message you directly.
- Log in at least weekly – don’t let your account go dormant.
- Engage with others on the platform
Bottom line:
Saying you’re open to work means nothing if no one can contact you. Make sure recruiters actually can.
You would NEVER send a resume without an email address or phone number, so what are you doing that on LinkedIn?
