We are now in what the Wall Street Journal calls the “era of the mega-layoff.” Companies aren’t trimming around the edges anymore. They’re making large, strategic cuts and being rewarded for it.

The professionals who move fastest after layoffs don’t rely on applications. They rely on:
- Inbound interest
- Warm introductions
- Pre-existing credibility
They’ve already done the work. They are:
- Known in their space
- Recognized for their thinking
- Trusted beyond their current role
So, when disruption hits, opportunities find them.
This Is Where Most People Get It Wrong
They react to uncertainty by increasing activity:
- More posting
- More networking
- More “visibility”
But visibility alone is shallow. And shallow signals don’t hold up under scrutiny.

Visibility says: “I’m active.”
Credibility says: “I’m trusted.”
Visibility gets you seen; Credibility gets you selected.
And in a layoff environment:

- “Are they posting?”
Instead, they’re asking:
- “Do I believe them?”
- “Do they know what they’re talking about?”
- “Would I put them in front of a client, team, or board?”
